In an effort to appeal to budget-conscious diners, McDonald's said on Tuesday that it is increasing the range of value options it offers.
The massive fast-food chain is reintroducing its Extra Value Meals, which were last advertised prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, on Monday. According to the corporation, customers will save 15% when purchasing the combo meals as opposed to purchasing the entree, fries, and drink separately.
McDonald's and its competitors have been using sales and discounts to get patrons back to their eateries for over a year. Due to low-income consumers cutting back on their expenditures, fast-food companies have seen a decline in traffic. McDonald's launched their $5 value meal last summer and continued the promotion after its initial run. Later on, it expanded its menu to include a buy one, get one free offer.
A Sausage McMuffin with Egg, Sausage Egg and Cheese McGriddle, Egg McMuffin, Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit, Big Mac, 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, any Quarter Pounder burger, and any McCrispy Sandwich are among the eight combo meals that are available on the McDonald's menu.
McDonald's will offer a Big Mac with medium fries and a medium soft drink for $8 for a limited period of time, as well as a Sausage McMuffin with Egg, hash brown, and a small coffee for $5 to encourage the growth of its value menu.
In a statement released Tuesday, McDonald's U.S. President Joe Erlinger said, "McDonald's USA is laser-focused on delivering value and affordability for our customers, and I'm incredibly proud of how our franchisees and teams continue to step up to make it a reality."
Chris Kempczinski, the CEO of McDonald's, emphasized the importance of low-income customers to the fast-food industry during the company's most recent earnings conference call in early August.
Since they tend to frequent our restaurants more than middle- and high-income patrons, Kempczinski stated, "reengaging the low-income consumer is critical."
Additionally, McDonald's has more promotions scheduled for later this year. Beginning in November, the business will sell its 10-piece Chicken McNuggets meals for $8 and its Sausage, Egg, and Cheese McGriddles for $5.
