Although there haven't been many foldables released in 2025, a number of major rivals have. Specifically, I think of the Motorola Razr (2025) range. Recent market data indicates that Motorola and Samsung completely outperformed each other.
Even if it's forceful, "Wiped the floor" gets the point across. Although one could be tempted to believe differently, a report published by Counterpoint Research highlighted certain important data points that indicate Motorola performed better than Samsung.
Global shipments of foldable smartphones increased 45% year over year, according to the Q2 2025 report. Although the US market saw a twofold in market share, China is mostly responsible for that. This shows that, despite China's rapid expansion with companies like Huawei, foldables are becoming more and more popular in the US.
After releasing the Razr (2025) in April, Motorola's global market share was 28%. Just 14% of shipments were taken up by the corporation last year. Given that other OEMs are grouped under the "other" category, which made up 33% of the total, that is not a negligible figure.
After maintaining a respectable 21% market share in Q2 2024, Samsung reported a 9% market share in Q2 2025. Samsung may not be experiencing a decline in phone sales, despite that decline. It could simply indicate that other producers are creating fiercely competitive goods.
It's also critical to keep in mind that Samsung's recent launches, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, are not included in Q2 2025. According to reports, those devices have sold extremely well and will continue to do so as Samsung increases production to keep up with the strong demand.
