On Thursday, Louisiana's top prosecutor filed a lawsuit against Roblox, a well-known online gaming platform, claiming that it has become "the perfect place for pedophiles" due to its lack of strict safety measures for kids.
Attorney General Liz Murrill filed the lawsuit in Louisiana's 21st Judicial District, alleging that the California-based business purposefully or carelessly created a platform that lacked an age verification procedure, making it simple for Roblox's tens of millions of players to create accounts with fictitious birthdays.
According to the claim, minors can circumvent controls intended for users under the age of thirteen, while adults can pretend to be youngsters.
Roblox was founded in 2006 and boasts a vast library of user-designed games and "experiences," many of which incorporate real-time messaging. The complaint claims that 20% of the platform's 82 million active users were younger than nine years old, as stated in the company's 2024–25 annual report.
"Roblox prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety, which is why it is overrun with harmful content and child predators," Murrill said in a statement. "In order to prevent the unimaginable from ever occurring in their own home, every parent should be aware of the clear and present danger [posed] to their children by Roblox."
A man arrested last month in Louisiana on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material was allegedly using the platform when he was taken into custody, according to the 42-page lawsuit, which also cites a number of sexually explicit "experiences" that have been on the platform, such as "Escape to Epstein Island," "Diddy Party," and "Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe."
The suit claimed that the guy had lured and sexually exploited youngsters on the platform by imitating the sound of a young female using voice-altering technology.
In addition to seeking a permanent order prohibiting Roblox from breaking the state's unfair trade practices legislation or marketing its safety features as sufficient, which the lawsuit claims it regularly does, the lawsuit, which charges unfair trade practices, carelessness, and unjust enrichment, does not specify damages.
A Roblox representative said in a statement that although the firm is dedicated to collaborating with the prosecutor's office to protect children, it is "categorically untrue" that Roblox would purposefully expose users to exploitation.
