Iran has issued a stern warning of a "devastating response" to any act of aggression against its territory, amid rising regional tensions and ongoing concerns over its nuclear program. The statement comes as Iranian officials engage in a new round of diplomatic talks with European representatives aimed at de-escalating tensions and reviving stalled negotiations over its nuclear activities.
In a televised address, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian emphasized that the Islamic Republic "will not hesitate to defend its sovereignty and national security with full force." He added, "Any military action or hostile move against Iran will be met with a crushing and decisive response."
The warning follows recent reports of heightened military activity in the region, including drone incidents and naval maneuvers in the Persian Gulf, which have raised concerns among global powers. Iran has repeatedly denied any intention to develop nuclear weapons, insisting its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes such as energy and medical research.
At the same time, Iran has resumed diplomatic engagements with European nations, particularly France, Germany, and the United Kingdom—the so-called E3 countries. The latest round of talks, held in Vienna, focused on restoring the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, which has been in jeopardy since the United States withdrew in 2018.
European diplomats expressed cautious optimism, noting that while significant differences remain, the dialogue marks a potential step toward renewed cooperation. "We believe diplomacy is the only viable path to ensure regional stability and prevent nuclear proliferation," said a senior EU official involved in the discussions.
Iran, however, reiterated its demands for guarantees on sanctions relief and respect for its nuclear rights under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Iranian officials also called for an end to what they describe as "hostile policies" by Western nations.
As negotiations continue, the international community remains watchful, urging restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation. The outcome of these talks could have far-reaching implications for Middle Eastern security and global non-proliferation efforts.
