Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has declared his intention to withdraw Iran's ambassador to Canberra and accused Iran of orchestrating at least two anti-Jewish incidents in his nation.
According to Albanese, who spoke to media in the Australian capital on Tuesday, the attacks, which occurred in Sydney and Melbourne last year, were "extraordinary and dangerous acts of aggression orchestrated by a foreign nation" with the intention of eroding social cohesion in Australia.
He declared, "The Australian government is taking strong and decisive action because it is completely unacceptable."
"We told the Iranian ambassador to Australia that he would be expelled a short while ago."
According to the prime minister, Australia has likewise relocated all of its diplomats to a third nation and halted operations at its embassy in Tehran, the capital of Iran.
He continued, "I can also declare that the government will enact legislation designating Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, as a terrorist organization."
Australian officials say the attacks occurred at the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne on December 6 and the Lewis Continental Kitchen in Sydney on October 10. Although there were no fatalities in either attack, the properties were severely damaged when the attackers set them on fire.
The Iranian ambassador, Ahmad Sadeghi, and three of his associates have been designated persona non grata and given seven days to depart the country, according to Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong. In addition to withdrawing its envoy to Tehran, she said the action was the first time Australia has removed an ambassador since World War II.
Wong advised Australians living in the Middle Eastern nation to go back home, but stated that the Albanese government will continue to have some diplomatic ties with Iran in order to further Canberra's interests. She also cautioned Australians who were thinking of visiting Iran to not do so.
