In Vietnam and Thailand, heavy rains result in landslides, flooding, and eight fatalities

In Southeast Asia, where a tropical cyclone killed at least eight fatalities, heavy rains on Wednesday caused landslides and flooding.

According to state media, flooding in numerous northern and central Vietnamese provinces resulted in seven fatalities, one reported missing, and thirty-four injuries.

Parts of northeast Vietnam received nearly 20 centimeters (8 inches) of rain over night, and several riverbank areas were still under flood warning.

Heavy rains that fell on Tuesday night and continued into Wednesday caused flooding in a number of northern provinces in neighboring Thailand. Residents of a town in Nan province were forced to leave their houses due to flooding caused by swollen rivers.

More than 600 people were impacted by the storm, according to authorities. A landslide in a small village in the province of Chiang Mai on Wednesday left one person dead, numerous others injured, and seven people missing, including an eight-year-old boy.

According to Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, landslides and flash flooding in the country's northern regions damaged numerous homes and injured a number of people.
