Hungary Condemns Alleged Ukrainian Attacks on Druzhba Oil Pipeline as Unacceptable

Hungarian authorities have strongly condemned recent attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline, which they attribute to Ukrainian military actions. In a statement released by the Hungarian government, officials described the incidents as "unacceptable" and emphasized the critical importance of the pipeline for Hungary's energy security.

The Druzhba pipeline, one of the largest oil transportation systems in the world, supplies crude oil from Russia to several Central and Eastern European countries, including Hungary. Despite ongoing geopolitical tensions due to the war in Ukraine, Hungary has maintained its reliance on Russian oil delivered through this route, citing national energy needs and existing contractual obligations.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expressed concern over the damage caused by the alleged attacks, warning that such actions threaten regional stability and energy infrastructure. "Targeting vital energy infrastructure is a dangerous escalation that undermines peace and security in Europe," Orbán stated. "Hungary will not tolerate any threats to its energy supply."

The government has called for a thorough investigation into the incidents and urged all parties involved in the conflict to respect international law and protect civilian and energy infrastructure. Hungary also reiterated its position that energy should not be used as a weapon in warfare.

European Union officials have been notified of the situation, and Budapest is seeking support to ensure the swift repair of the pipeline and the restoration of oil flows. The attacks, if confirmed, could further complicate energy dynamics within the EU, especially as member states continue to balance solidarity with Ukraine against national energy interests.

Hungary remains committed to maintaining its energy independence and securing alternative supply routes in the long term, while stressing the need for dialogue and de-escalation in the broader conflict.
