According to reports, Apple will revive Touch ID on a foldable iPhone

I'm excited about 2026 as an iPhone user who has watched with jealousy as foldable Android smartphones have been released. Although Apple's 2025 iPhone launch event is scheduled for next month, I've had my eye on the company's first foldable iPhone, which is expected to debut the following year. It's a component of Apple's three-year iPhone refresh schedule.

Despite being a new product in Apple's range, Bloomberg claims that Touch ID will be included as a throwback feature. Since the third-generation iPhone SE was the last to employ Face ID, it's unclear why it's switching back to Touch ID. Similar actions were taken by Apple when it revived its MagSafe charging line, which was first compatible with MacBooks, with the launching of the iPhone 12.

According to Bloomberg, Apple changed their mind on using on-cell touch sensors for the upcoming iPhone and instead decided to use in-cell ones, like the ones found in the current model. An on-cell screen adds a layer on top, making the final product bulkier, which can be more evident in folding phones where the display folds. In-cell screens incorporate the touch sensors directly into the display. There are also rumors that the foldable iPhone will be available in white, black, light blue, and light gold, and it will have four cameras.

Although it will take some time for the foldable speculations to be verified, there should be some intriguing moments at this year's event. There will probably be a very thin gadget called the iPhone Air, which is said to include a simple A19 chip and a single camera.
